1. Columns to read
Pick the columns that help decide. They're read in the order you click them.
Numbers and dates can help, but they're less useful than text: they're read as words, so there's no math or date comparison. Include a text column for the best results.
2. What to decide for each row
3. Review
Preview first to check the results. Previews are free and don't count toward your daily limit.
Not quite right? Reword the question, describe the categories more clearly, or choose different columns, then preview again.
Preparing your file…
Your file is ready
Always free. For your privacy, we don't keep anything: your file and results are deleted automatically within an hour.
How it works
- Upload your spreadsheet. CSV, Excel, Parquet or JSON. Nothing to install.
- Say what to decide. Pick the columns to read, then list your categories, ask a yes/no question, or set up a rating scale.
- Preview, then download. Check 10 rows for free, run the whole file, and get it back with the new columns added.
Each row gets a label, how sure the AI was, and a flag when it's worth a second look:
| Description | Category | Confidence | Needs review |
|---|---|---|---|
| TRADER JOE'S #552 ANN ARBOR | Groceries | 100% | |
| UBER *TRIP HELP.UBER.COM | Transport | 98% | |
| NETFLIX.COM 866-579-7172 | Subscriptions | 100% | |
| TARGET 00012345 ANN ARBOR | Shopping | 27% | Yes |
What people use it for
- Sorting bank and credit card exports into budget categories
- Marking reviews or comments as positive, neutral or negative
- Routing support tickets to the right team
- Grouping open-ended survey answers into themes
- Scoring a list of leads as a good or poor fit
- Flagging spam, duplicates or off-topic entries
…and much more. If you can describe the decision in a sentence, SheetSorter can make it for every row.
FAQ
Is it really free?
Yes, completely. No account, no paid plan and no watermark; the site is supported by ads. To keep it fast for everyone, each person can classify up to 300,000 rows a day.
What files can I upload?
CSV, TSV, Excel (.xlsx), Parquet, JSON and JSON Lines. Each file can be up to 100 MB or 100,000 rows, whichever comes first. Bigger file? Split it into parts and run them one after another. For Excel files the first sheet is used, and old .xls files need to be re-saved as .xlsx.
Do you keep my data?
No. For your privacy we don't keep anything. Your file is held in memory only while you work, never saved to disk, and deleted automatically within an hour, along with the results. To get the answers, only the columns you select are sent to our classification service, which doesn't use your data to train models.
How accurate is it?
In independent tests, the model behind SheetSorter is about as accurate as popular AI models such as Anthropic's Claude Haiku and OpenAI's GPT-5 mini (from the makers of ChatGPT). In our own tests it was right about 98% of the time telling positive from negative reviews and about 80% of the time sorting news articles by topic. Tasks with many similar categories are harder. Every row gets a confidence score, and rows it's unsure about are marked "needs review" so you know which ones to check.
What does the confidence score mean?
It's how sure the model is about its answer, from 0% to 100%. You choose the cut-off: rows below it are marked "needs review". Changing the cut-off after a run is instant and doesn't re-run anything.
Can it use numbers and dates?
Yes, and they can help. An amount can help tell a refund from a purchase, for example. They just aren't as useful as text: they're read as words, so there's no math or date comparison. For the best results, include at least one text column such as a description, comment or title.
How long does it take?
Usually around a thousand rows every 15 to 20 seconds, so a 100,000-row file takes roughly half an hour. Keep the page open while it runs.
How do I contact you?
Use the contact page or email [email protected]. We read every message.
What do I get back?
Your original file with new columns on the right: the label, the confidence, and a "needs review" flag. You can download it as CSV, Excel, Parquet or JSON.
