CSV, Excel, Parquet or JSON. Up to 100 MB or 100,000 rows per file.

No file handy?

Always free. For your privacy, we don't keep anything: your file and results are deleted automatically within an hour.

Most banks let you download your transactions as a CSV or Excel file, but the descriptions are cryptic: "SQ *BLUE BOTTLE 0412", "AMZN MKTP US*2K4LP0". Sorting a few months of them into budget categories by hand takes hours.

Upload the export, list the categories you budget with, and every row gets a category plus a confidence score. Rows it isn't sure about, like a big-box store that sells both groceries and electronics, are flagged so you can check them.

How to do it

  1. Download transactions from your bank's website as CSV or Excel (usually under Statements or Activity).
  2. Select the description column. The amount can help separate refunds from purchases, but the description does most of the work.
  3. List your budget categories, preview 10 rows, then download the file with a new Category column.

Example

Real results from the sample file (bank transactions). The last row shows a case the model wasn't sure about, flagged for you to check:

TRADER JOE'S #552 ANN ARBOR MIGroceries99%
PAYROLL DEPOSIT ACME CORPIncome98%
UBER *TRIP HELP.UBER.COMTransport99%

Tips for better results

  • Include an "Income" category so paychecks and transfers in don't get forced into spending categories.
  • Keep the "Other" category on: ATM withdrawals and person-to-person transfers often don't fit anywhere.
  • If a category keeps getting confused, add a short description, e.g. Subscriptions: "recurring monthly services like streaming or cloud storage".

Questions

Is it safe to upload my bank transactions?

Your file is held in memory only, never saved, and deleted automatically within an hour. Only the columns you select are read. You can also remove account numbers or names before uploading; the description column is all it needs.

Which banks does it work with?

Any bank or card that exports CSV or Excel files. It reads whatever columns your bank uses, so there's no special format to follow.

Can I use my own budget categories?

Yes. Type any categories you like, from a simple five-category budget to a detailed list. You can add a short description to each one.
